ANTIQUES-GALLERIES-GIFTS

One of Maggie Valley's best

Every August, the Cabbage Rose, located right in the heart of Maggie Valley, hosts a Department 56 weekend. People come from several states away to check out the bargains, and often spend a few more days enjoying the mountains.

You can find antiques, mountain crafts, and paintings by local artists all over the Smoky Mountains area.  Downtown Waynesville, which will remind you of Mayberry, is only a few minutes from the Abbey Inn.  There are craft and gift shops within walking distance of the motel, and of course downtown Maggie Valley has enough stores to keep you happy shopping for several hours.

If it's raining and the day is still early when you've had your fill of stores, there are several museums in near-by Cherokee, including the newly remodeled Museum of the Chrerokee Indian.  Of course, you can take a short drive into Asheville, (our big city) and do all the shops there.  Well, maybe not all, you won't have enough hours in the day.

When your "shop 'till you drop" craving has been satisfied, make your way back to the Abbey Inn and enjoy a night of well-earned rest in the peace and quiet of the mountains above Maggie Valley.

People come to Maggie Valley for a variety of reasons.  Although the foremost of these is sight seeing, many also stay to browse though the many antique stores and craft shops located here.  Many of the crafts are made by local mountain crafters, and we host several craft shows every year.
